He Died for Us

Today's Text But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

There is one great central truth to be kept ever before the mind in the searching of the Scriptures—Christ and Him crucified. Every other truth is invested with influence and power corresponding to its relation to this theme. It is only in the light of the cross that we can discern the exalted character of the law of God. The soul palsied by sin can be endowed with life only through the work wrought out upon the cross by the Author of our salvation. When Christ bowed His head and died, He bore the pillars of Satan's kingdom with Him to the earth. He vanquished Satan. Christ submitted to crucifixion, although the heavenly host could have delivered Him. The angels suffered with Christ. God Himself was crucified with Christ; for Christ was one with the Father. Those who reject Christ, those who will not have this man to rule over them, choose to place themselves under the rule of Satan, to do his work as his bondslaves. Yet for them Christ yielded up His life on Calvary. He who died for the sins of the world was to remain in the tomb the allotted time. He was in that stony prison house as a prisoner of divine justice. He was responsible to the Judge of the universe. He was bearing the sins of the world, and His Father only could release Him. He identified Himself with our interests, bared His breast for the stroke of death, took man's guilt and its penalty, and offered in man's behalf a complete sacrifice to God. By virtue of this atonement, He has power to offer to man perfect righteousness and full salvation. Whosoever shall believe on Him as a personal Saviour shall not perish, but have everlasting life. The price of man's redemption has been paid, and all he has and is should be sprinkled with the blood of Christ, dedicated to God; for it belongs to Him. My Thoughts: My friend, Christ's death on the cross was the great sacrifice that God had made for the salvation of mankind. His life was the only life that could save fallen humanity. Not even the life of a holy angle was sufficient to redeem man, for the life of and angel was not divine. He took our place upon the cross that we may live, for without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. The trinity teaches that the Son of God is God unto himself and as such cannot die and that the divine Son of God did not truly die on the cross, for how could God die? To reconcile this apparent contradiction it claims that His humanity died on the cross, while His divinity continued to live, thus destroying the sacrifice of God for man. Jesus' death on the cross is all important in the plan of salvation, for without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. The Son of God must lay down His life, His divine life, for our salvation. If the Son of God did not truly die, then there is no death. If there is no death then there is no remission of our sin. The trinity is a deception of Satan and as such destroys the whole of our salvation. It takes the great sacrifice of God in giving us His Son, and makes the sacrifice a lie. My friend, the Son of God took upon Himself humanity. His divinity was so closely fused with His humanity that when He died on the cross, His divinity lay dormant in the grave with Him. Had He sinned in the least, His Father would not have called Him from the grave and His divinity would have laid dormant for all eternity. In taking upon Himself humanity, He risked His very existence. In giving us His Son, the Father risked loosing His only begotten Son for all eternity. This is the great sacrifice that the Father has made in giving us His Son. God bless,

His Blameless Life

Today's Text Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. John 14:30

We should have no misgivings in regard to the perfect sinlessness of the human nature of Christ. He is a brother in our infirmities, but not in possessing like passions. As the sinless One, His nature recoiled from evil. He endured struggles and torture of soul in a world of sin. His humanity made prayer a necessity and privilege. He could have sinned; He could have fallen, but not for one moment was there in Him an evil propensity. In taking upon Himself man's nature in its fallen condition, Christ did not in the least participate in its sin. He was subject to the infirmities and weaknesses of the flesh by which man is encompassed.... He was touched with the feeling of our infirmities, and was in all points tempted like as we are. And yet He “knew no sin.” He was the lamb “without blemish and without spot.” Could Satan in the least particular have tempted Christ to sin, he would have bruised the Saviour's head. As it was, he could only touch His heel. Had the head of Christ been touched, the hope of the human race would have perished. Divine wrath would have come upon Christ as it came upon Adam. Christ and the church would have been without hope. Not even by a thought could Christ be brought to yield to the power of temptation. Satan finds in human hearts some point where he can gain a foot-hold; some sinful desire is cherished, by means of which his temptations assert their power. But Christ declared of Himself, “The prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.” The storms of temptation burst upon him, but they could not cause him to swerve from his allegiance to God. Jesus did not allow the enemy to pull Him into the mire of unbelief, or crowd Him into the mire of despondency and despair. Christ's humanity was united with divinity, and in this strength He would bear all the temptations that Satan could bring against Him, and yet keep His soul untainted by sin. And this power to overcome He would give to every son and daughter of Adam who would accept by faith the righteous attributes of His character. My Thoughts: My friend, Christ came to this earth in the likeness of sinful flesh, which had been degraded over the centuries, yet He held on to His divine nature. He was fully human and yet He was divine as well. His divine nature was clothed in Humanity. In His humanity He was subject to temptation, and all of the weaknesses of man, while in His divinity He laid hold of the power of God. While Christ came to this world in the likeness of sinful flesh, He retained His divine nature, His divine being. Some believe that Christ came with the same sinful fallen nature of man, to show us how we can overcome sin, but had He done this He would have yielded to temptation just as readily as men do today. His divine holy and righteous nature connected Him with heaven and is the way of our salvation. Some believe that man has the ability to overcome sin in the flesh by laying hold of the same power that Christ had. They believe that Christ is our example and as we emulate Him, we will become righteous. But this is not so. It stems from a misunderstanding of what sin truly is. It is a belief that sin is only an action that we commit, while the Scriptures reveal that sin is a condition of the heart. We commit sin because we are sinful by nature. As such all of our good deeds are tainted by our sinful nature. "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;" (Isaiah 64:6). As an orange tree can only produce oranges, so too are we who are sinful produce sinful actions. Our true problem with sin is not that we have sinned but that we are sinful by nature. Thus the remedy for our sin is to change our nature. This is the new birth that is offered to all that would believe. "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh." (Ezekiel 36:26). Righteousness is not right doing but is right being. Christ came in the likeness of sinful flesh with the divine nature of God, and overcame sin in the flesh, and He offers His victorious divine life to us. In and of ourselves we cannot produce righteousness, but with the righteous life of Christ living within us, we are cleaned from all unrighteousness. My friend, how long will you struggle to do the impossible; how long will you in your own strength struggle to overcome sin in your life? Will you not yield your life to Christ that He may come in and cleanse you from all unrighteousness today? God bless,

The Creator Incarnate

Today's Text And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. 1 Timothy 3:16

The incarnation of Christ is the mystery of all mysteries. Christ was one with the Father, yet when sin entered our world through Adam's transgression,He was willing to step down from the exaltation of one who was equal with God, who dwelt in light unapproachable by humanity, so full of glory that no man could behold his face and live, and submit to insult, mockery, suffering, pain, and death in order to answer the claims of the immutable law of God, and make a way of escape for the transgressor by his death and righteousness. That He might accomplish His purpose of love for the fallen race, He became bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh. How wide is the contrast between the divinity of Christ and the helpless infant in Bethlehem's manger! How can we span the distance between the mighty God and a helpless child? And yet the Creator of worlds, He in whom was the fullness of the Godhead bodily, was manifest in the helpless babe in the manger. Far higher than any of the angels, equal with the Father in dignity and glory, and yet wearing the garb of humanity! Divinity and humanity were mysteriously combined, and man and God became one. It would have been an almost infinite humiliation for the Son of God to take man's nature, even when Adam stood in his innocence in Eden. But Jesus accepted humanity when the race had been weakened by four thousand years of sin. Like every child of Adam He accepted the results of the working of the great law of heredity. What these results were is shown in the history of His earthly ancestors. He came with such a heredity to share our sorrows and temptations, and to give us the example of a sinless life. Those who claim that it was not possible for Christ to sin, cannot believe that He really took upon Himself human nature. But was not Christ actually tempted, not only by Satan in the wilderness, but all through His life, from childhood to manhood? Our Saviour took humanity, with all its liabilities. He took the nature of man, with the possibility of yielding to temptation. We have nothing to bear which He has not endured. My Thoughts: My friend, the divine Son of God who is the fullness of the godhead manifested for all of creation, took upon Himself the garb of humanity that He may reveal the love and character of God to man. By sin, the knowledge and image of God had dimmed so much in the hearts and minds of man that the people of God were looking for a Messiah that was not to come. Only the Son of God could span the abyss between heaven and earth. In taking upon Himself humanity, He laid aside His divine attributes, but retained His divine nature that He may impart it to man. We do not truly realize the great sacrifice that God had made in giving us His Son. In giving us His Son, He gave the very best of heaven. He gave us the very life of the Son of God to live within us and restore us back into the image of God. The life that resides in the repent sinner is the very life of God. As the Spirit of the Father dwells within the Son, so too does He dwell within us by His Son. This is why we are called sons and daughters of God. "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God:" (1 John 3:1). Our salvation is in the life of the Son of God living within our hearts. The sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross paid the penalty for our sins, but it is by His life that we are made the children of God. Many look to the cross as the point of our salvation, but this is not so, it is by the life of Christ that we are made holy. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6). This was not accomplished at the cross, but by His sinless life. The Comforter that was to come could not have been given prior to Pentecost because the righteous life lived in the flesh was not yet. "(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)" (John 7:39). The word given is a supplied word and changes the meaning of the text. The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, was not yet because Christ was not yet glorified. When Christ ascended to heaven He was glorified with the glory that He had with the Father before the incarnation, and He gives to us the Comforter, which is the Spirit of Christ, to live within us. My friend, the wonderful truth about our salvation is that the nature of God lives within us by His Son. It is by His life that we are saved. God bless,
