The True Mediator
Today's Text
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 2:5
In the mediatorial work of Christ, the love of God was revealed in its perfection to men and angels. The Signs of the Times, July 19, 1910 (The Signs of the Times, June 27, 1895).

He stands to mediate for you. He is the great High Priest who is pleading in your behalf; and you are to come and present your case to the Father through Jesus Christ. Thus you can find access to God; and though you sin, your case is not hopeless. “If any man sin, we have an advocate [Comforter] with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” 1 John 2:1. Testimonies for the Church 2:591.

Christ is your Redeemer; He will take no advantage of your humiliating confessions. If you have sin of a private character, confess it to Christ, who is the only mediator between God and man. Counsels on Health, 374.

He presents us to the Father clothed in the white raiment of His own character. He pleads before God in our behalf, saying: I have taken the sinner's place. Look not upon this wayward child, but look on Me. Does Satan plead loudly against our souls, accusing of sin, claiming us as his prey, the blood of Christ pleads with greater power. Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, 9.

The work of Christ in the sanctuary above, presenting His own blood each moment before the mercy seat, as He makes intercession for us, should have its full impression upon the heart, that we may realize the worth of each moment. Jesus ever liveth to make intercession for us; but one moment carelessly spent can never be recovered. Counsels on Sabbath School Work, 111.

Think of Jesus. He is in His holy place, not in a state of solitude, but surrounded by ten thousand times ten thousand of heavenly angels who wait to do His bidding. And He bids them go and work for the weakest saint who puts his trust in God. High and low, rich and poor, have the same help provided. The Review and Herald, May 29, 1900.

Consider this great fact that Christ ceases not to engage in His solemn work in the heavenly sanctuary, and if you wear Christ's yoke, if you lift Christ's burden, you will be engaged in a work of like character with that of your living Head. Counsels on Sabbath School Work, 112.

My Thoughts:
My friend, the true mediation of Christ is where the problem with sin is; within the heart. We sin because we are sinful by nature. The acts of sin that we commit are simply the fruit of our nature. Thus the remedy for this is a new heart, a new spirit. Christ is performing a work of separating us from our sins within the heart. As Christ lives within us by His Spirit, He imparts to us His Spirit, His life, that we may be cleansed from all unrighteousness.

The true mediation of Christ is within us.

Uttermost Salvation for His Children

But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Hebrews 7:24, 25
Every provision has been made for our infirmities, every encouragement offered us to come to Christ.

Christ offered up His broken body to purchase back God's heritage, to give man another trial.... By His spotless life, His obedience, His death on the cross of Calvary, Christ interceded for the lost race. And now, not as a mere petitioner does the Captain of our salvation intercede for us, but as a Conqueror claiming His victory. His offering is complete, and as our Intercessor He executes His self-appointed work, holding before God the censer containing His own spotless merits and the prayers, confessions, and thanksgiving of His people. Perfumed with the fragrance of His righteousness, these ascend to God as a sweet savor. The offering is wholly acceptable, and pardon covers all transgression.

Christ has pledged Himself to be our substitute and surety, and He neglects no one. He who could not see human beings exposed to eternal ruin without pouring out His soul unto death in their behalf, will look with pity and compassion upon every soul who realizes that he cannot save himself.

He will look upon no trembling suppliant without raising him up. He who through His own atonement provided for man an infinite fund of moral power, will not fail to employ this power in our behalf. We may take our sins and sorrows to His feet; for He loves us. His every look and word invites our confidence. He will shape and mold our characters according to His own will.

In the whole satanic force there is not power to overcome one soul who in simple trust casts himself on Christ. “He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.” Isaiah 40:29. Christ's Object Lessons, 156, 157.

My Thoughts:
My friend, in the sanctuary service above, Jesus is performing a work of separating us from our sins. That work in heaven represents the work that Christ is doing within the hearts of His people by His Spirit. In heaven He is the high priest in the temple of God; in our hearts by His Spirit, He is the high priest ministering in the body temple. "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" (1 Corinthians 3:16).

Our true problem with sin is that we are sinful by nature and the work of salvation is to give us a new heart; a new spirit within us. That spirit is the Spirit of Christ. He gives to us His divine nature that we may be righteous. This is the great work of salvation that God has wrought within us. "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them." (Ezekiel 36:26, 27).

How sad it is that so many are striving to be right with God by their good works. They believe that salvation is by grace and obedience to the law. This is a false gospel and can save no one. Of this the apostle Paul says "O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? (Galatians 3:1-3).

My friend, as we accept Christ as our Savior by faith, He will come into our hearts and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.

Hebrews 9:24
The subject of the sanctuary and the investigative judgment should be clearly understood by the people of God. All need a knowledge for themselves of the position and work of their great High Priest....

The intercession of Christ in man's behalf in the sanctuary above is as essential to the plan of salvation as was His death upon the cross. By His death He began that work which after His resurrection He ascended to complete in heaven. We must by faith enter within the veil, “whither the forerunner is for us entered.” Hebrews 6:20. There the light from the cross of Calvary is reflected. There we may gain a clearer insight into the mysteries of redemption. The salvation of man is accomplished at an infinite expense to heaven; the sacrifice made is equal to the broadest demands of the broken law of God. Jesus has opened the way to the Father's throne, and through His mediation the sincere desire of all who come to Him in faith may be presented before God.

“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Proverbs 28:13. If those who hide and excuse their faults could see how Satan exults over them, how he taunts Christ and holy angels with their course, they would make haste to confess their sins and to put them away. Through defects in the character, Satan works to gain control of the whole mind, and he knows that if these defects are cherished, he will succeed. Therefore he is constantly seeking to deceive the followers of Christ with his fatal sophistry that it is impossible for them to overcome. But Jesus pleads in their behalf His wounded hands, His bruised body; and He declares to all who would follow Him, “My grace is sufficient for thee.” 2 Corinthians 12:9.... Let none, then, regard their defects as incurable. God will give faith and grace to overcome them. The Great Controversy, 488, 489.

My Thoughts:
My friend, our true problem with sin is that we are sinful by nature. Even before we committed the first act of sin, we did so within our hearts. Therefore, the remedy for our sinful condition is to receive a new heart. The new heart is only a symbol of a new character; a new life that is to replace our corrupt hearts. This is accomplished by the indwelling of the Spirit of Christ within us.

The work of transforming the hearts of the believer is an internal work that only divinity can see, but through the sanctuary service above this work is made known to the whole universe. Through this service each life that comes before the throne of God, that has accepted the great gift of salvation, is applied the life of God through the Son. Thus all the intelligent beings from un-fallen worlds may see the work of redemption in the heart of the redeemed.

The work of cleansing us from all unrighteousness is accomplished by the indwelling of the Spirit of Christ within us. "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:" (Colossians 1:27).
