Grieve Not the Spirit

Today's Text And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30

Conscience is the voice of God, heard amid the conflict of human passions; when it is resisted, the Spirit of God is grieved. Men have the power to quench the Spirit of God; the power of choosing is left with them. They are allowed freedom of action. They may be obedient through the name and grace of our Redeemer, or they may be disobedient, and realize the consequences. The sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit does not lie in any sudden word or deed; it is the firm, determined resistance of truth and evidence. It is not that God sends out a decree that man shall not be saved. He does not throw a darkness before the eyes which cannot be penetrated. But man at first resists a motion of the Spirit of God, and, having once resisted, it is less difficult to do so the second time, less the third, and far less the fourth. Then comes the harvest to be reaped from the seed of unbelief and resistance. Oh what a harvest of sinful indulgences is preparing for the sickle! When secret prayer and reading of the Scriptures are neglected today, tomorrow they can be omitted with less remonstrance of conscience. There will be a long list of omissions, all for a single grain sown in the soil of the heart. On the other hand, every ray of light cherished will yield a harvest of light. Temptation once resisted will give power to more firmly resist the second time; every new victory gained over self will smooth the way for higher and nobler triumphs. Every victory is a seed sown to eternal life. God destroys no one. The sinner destroys himself by his own impenitence. No one need look upon the sin against the Holy Ghost as something mysterious and indefinable. The sin against the Holy Ghost is the sin of persistent refusal to respond to the invitation to repent. The love and suffering and death of the Son of God all testify to the terrible enormity of sin and declare that there is no escape from its power, no hope of the higher life, but through the submission of the soul to Christ. My Thoughts: My friend, the reason why there is no hope for the sinner that grieves away the Spirit of God is because it is through this agency that the sinner is transformed. A persistent refusal to accept the light of truth given to the sinner by the working of the Spirit of God upon their heart, leads them to a place where they can no longer hear the voice of God calling them to repentance. The message that is shaking the Seventh-day Adventist Church today is the message of the One true God. The church has adopted the belief in the trinity and as such they have rejected the Spirit of Christ leading the church. They have accepted the false in place of the true. The Faithful and True Witness of God to the church is knocking on the doors of the hearts of His people seeking to gain entrance. The message to the SDA church in the Laodecian condition is "...and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:" (Revelation 3:17). The church is in this condition because they have rejected the One true God and His Son Jesus Christ, and have turned to worship the Babylonian god of the trinity. They lack the righteousness of Christ and are blind to their true condition before God. To these the Spirit of Christ is pleading, but He is being persistently resisted. Those who bring the message of warning to the church are ridiculed, derided and forced from the church. The leaders refuse the light of truth and surround themselves with darkness. In resisting the light given and calling it darkness, they are placing themselves where the Spirit of God can no longer reach them. These become the most effective tools of Satan. But there are many in the church who have not grieved away the Spirit of Christ; they have been led to believe a lie, but when the light of truth is brought home to their hearts, they will receive it and join in giving the message of the One true God to those in the church. The message to you today is, will you receive the light of truth, or will you resist it? Will you accept the plain teaching of Jesus when He says "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." (John 17:3), or will you hold to the teachings of man, placing a thus sayeth the church ahead of a thus sayeth the Lord? My friend, the Spirit of God is striving with you today, will you yield to Him and live, or will you resist Him and perish? May you yield your heart to Jesus today. God bless,
