My friend, the trials of this life are heavy and is full of burden and care. Christ knows all of the burdens and cares of our life and He invites us to come unto Him that we may find rest unto our souls. He bids us "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me;" (Matthew 11:29). Christ is inviting us to surrender our lives to Him, that through Him we may have peace.
To learn of Him is to get to know Him, to enter into a relationship with Him that we may be transformed by Him. Christ came that we may have life, and that life that He offers to us is His divine/human life: a life that is connected with God. "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." (John 17:3).
The only one that can share our burdens is Jesus Christ, for He laid aside His divine attributes but retained His divine nature and became a man. He took on the likeness of sinful flesh, weakened by sin for four thousand years. He hungered as we do, He needed rest as we do, He had the like passions as we have, yet His nature was unstained by sin. With one hand He reaches down to humanity, with the other He grasps the hand of God.
Jesus is the only being in all of heaven that knows the depths of sin that we have fallen. He came down to this earth that by His life we may be saved. Many believe that it was His work on the cross that saves us, but while this was necessary to free us from the condemnation of sin, it did not transform us. It is only by His life that we are transformed into the image of God. It is only by the indwelling of His Spirit within us that we are made holy and righteous.
Man's problem with sin is not just that we commit sin, but that we are sinful by nature. We sin because it is in our nature to sin. The act of sinning begins in the heart, therefore our salvation must begin at the heart. God speaking through the prophet Ezekiel said "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh." (Ezekiel 36:26). This is the peace that Christ offers to you and me.
My friend, the peace that passeth all understanding is the miracle of the new birth. Jesus says "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." (John 5:24). As we surrender our hearts to Jesus, He creates within us a new heart, and renews a right spirit within us. This spirit is His divine Spirit, and He is offering it to you.
God bless,
