My friend, the love of God is demonstrated in the gift of His Son that we may become sons and daughters of God. The central theme of the gospel is in the fact that God gave us His Son. In giving us His Son He gave us the most precious gift that could be given, for in giving us His Son, He gave us Himself. "To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself," (2 Corinthians 5:19).
Jesus said unto His disciples "Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake." (John 14:10, 11). The Spirit of God dwells within the Son because the Son came forth from the Father, and as such He is the Son of God. The gift of the Son of God to mankind was not just in the sacrifice that was made for us, but is in His life.
What so many Christians miss today is that our salvation was not given to us at the cross, but in His life. His death on the cross was necessary in that He died for all mankind and freed us from the condemnation of sin, but without the life of Christ living within us we would still be sinful, unfit for heaven.
Our problem with sin is not just that we have sinned, but that we are sinful by nature. No amount of good deeds can change us. It is only by the life of the Son of God living within us that we are transformed into the image of God. "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son." (1 John 5:11).
If we are to be saved we must have the life of the Son of God living within us. Our lives must be transformed by His. So many today worship God is a trinity, believing that it is the Holy Spirit, a being that is not the Father nor the Son, that lives within them and makes them holy. But this is not so, it is the Spirit of Christ that is to live within us.
My friend, the love of God is demonstrated to us by the gift of His Son. Not just to die for our sins, but by His life we may have everlasting life. "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." (John 17:3).
God bless,
