My friend, the types and symbols that were given to Israel all pointed to the coming Messiah. The feast days and ceremonies were fulfilled at the cross. No longer are we to follow them as proscribed for we have the fulfillment of them in Jesus.
The moral law was not tied to types and symbols like the ceremonial law, and as such were not abolished at the cross, but its purpose, which was to bring the people into a knowledge of God and to govern their lives until the promised Messiah was to come, was. Jesus is the fullness of the law embodied in humanity and as we accept Him as our Savior, He dwells within our hearts and becomes the governing Spirit within us.
God, speaking through the prophet Ezekiel said "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them." (Ezekiel 36:26, 27).
In and of ourselves we cannot truly keep the law of God, but through the indwelling of the Spirit of Christ, we can. The law remains in force, but it no longer governs our lives, for we walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." (Romans 8:1-4).
My friend, the law is holy, righteous, and good and in no wise has been abolished, but the law no longer governs our lives: it is the Spirit of Christ that lives within us and governs us, for we walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit. Those who live in the Spirit will walk in harmony with the law of God, but they do so, not because of the law, but because of the Spirit of Christ that lives within them. This is the freedom that we have in Christ Jesus, who transforms our hearts that we love to keep the law of God.
My prayer is that the Spirit of Christ will live in your heart today.
God bless,
