My friend, the Son of God is the express image of the Father and is the only being in all the universe that can represent the Father to all of creation. As we look unto Jesus we see the fullness of the express image of the Father, and as such it is by Him that we come into contact with the One true God.
When Adam sinned he brought into this world the result of separation from the Father. He could not give to his posterity that which he did not have. God gave us His Son that we could have everlasting life. Praying to His Father He prayed "Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." (John 17:1-3).
The life that God is offering to us is a life connected with the Father, that by the indwelling of the Spirit of His Son, we may be made righteous. Our problem with sin is not that we have sinned, but that we are by nature sinful. We cannot produce righteousness because we are inherently sinful. Just as an apple tree cannot produce oranges, in like manner we cannot do righteous deeds because our hearts are sinful. What we need is a total transformation of our hearts.
Speaking to the children of Israel God said "A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them." (Ezekiel 36:26). The only way that we can be righteous is by the indwelling of Jesus within our hearts.
My friend, for all of my life as a Seventh-day Adventist, I have tried to do what is right. I've tried to keep the law of God but ultimately I failed every time. I was trying to be righteous by the power of the law when what I needed was Jesus Christ to live within my heart. I was trying to produce oranges while being an apple tree. What I needed and what we all need is Jesus Christ living within our hearts.
The Word of God that we are to hide within our hearts is the divine life of Jesus. "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:" (Colossians 1:27).
God bless,
